Mobile Tips and Tricks

Tips on Mobile Maintenance

Looking after your mobile helps to ensure it has a long and productive life.  There are 8 easy maintenance tips to help you get the best out of your mobile phone. All of the points below should also apply to your battery, charger and any other accessories.

KEEP YOUR MOBILE:

Charged: Ensure your battery is fully charged, and then completely run it down before recharging. Recharging too early causes your battery to run out of power more quickly.

Secure: For security reasons, enable the PIN on your SIM Card and Phone-lock on your phone to avoid unauthorized used. These security checks will also be activated when the phone is power cycled. You can check with your carrier or the phone manual for the features and also for information on blocking your SIM card and phone IMEI number if the phone is stolen. For more information please see the Security Tips located on the AMTA Lost and Stolen website.

Protected: Make sure you use a keypad lock to lock your phone. Unplanned calls can cost a fortune and even though your phone may be in a safe place, such as in a bag, your phone will still get knocked around to a surprising degree. Rough treatment can damage electronic circuit boards so avoid dropping or unnecessarily shaking your phone.

Battery: Be safe with your batteries. Use only genuine batteries from your phone manufacturer and only buy from authorized dealers. Going for the cheap option of a counterfeit battery can be dangerous.

 Clean: Don't use harsh detergents, cleaning solvents or harsh chemicals to clean your phone. Wipe only with a soft cloth.

Covered: a protective cover will help repel dust and dirt, and prevent scratches. Make sure the cover you choose is of good quality. Low quality covers with no air pockets can damage you phone by creating humidity inside the cover.

Storing your phone: Always store your phone in a dry place. Avoid rain, high humidity and liquids. All of these may contain minerals that could corrode the electronic circuits.

At the right temperature: To ensure a long life, keep your phone in a stable temperature. Avoid exposing your phone to liquid and/or exposing your phone to extreme temperature change from hot to cold and vice versa. This might create condensation and damage the phone.

How to quickly repair your Mobile Phone dropped in water?

Many of you get your mobile phone wet by one way or another. You worry as you mistakenly drop your mobile phone in water. It can also get wet if you are out in a heavy rain.  However, there is no need to panic. It is possible to save your wet mobile phone by quickly repairing it. In order to save your mobile phone from water damage, you can consider these easy and simple solutions:

Act rapidly :

The first thing you have to do in order to save your wet mobile phone is to act rapidly. Quickly remove all the detachable parts as well as covers possible such as the back cover, battery, the SIM card, memory card etc. Next, take a piece of cloth or a tissue paper to wipe the excess water you are able to notice within the mobile phone. Make sure that you dry it completely. If you don' t do this, the water inside the mobile phone will begin to evaporate and gather in places which will be difficult to reach.

 This will save your wet mobile phone and it will start working if it was under water for just a little while.

Using a hairdryer :

Take a hairdryer and begin drying the mobile phone while giving more consideration to the place where the battery is located. The battery housing usually consists of tiny holes to let in air (so giving more space for water) inside the mobile phone.

Make sure that you are not holding the hairdryer very near to the mobile phone. Keeping it too close to the mobile phone may harm the electrical mechanism of the mobile phone. Keep on drying the mobile phone from a safe distance for about twenty to thirty minutes.

If solution number 1 and solution number 2 don't work, try solution number 3.

Drying for a long time:

Take off the covers as well as battery from the mobile phone. Put the phone in a dry as well as warm place to let the water inside the phone evaporate gradually from the little holes in the mobile phone.

Samsung Galaxy S III Mini Launched. Latest Gadgets & Technology

The rumors were true, the Samsung Galaxy S family is about to get a new member. No, not a Galaxy S IV, but a Galaxy S III mini. The news comes straight from JK Shin, Samsung’s president, and the phone will be launching soon…
Samsung has announced that it will officially launch Samsung Galaxy S III Mini, which was unveiled a fortnight ago, on November 8, 2012. Though this date is for the UK launch, the smartphone can be expected to come to India around the same time, since the country is one of the biggest markets for Samsung.
The South Korean manufacturer also announced that Galaxy S III Mini will come bundled with 50GB of free Dropbox storage and games like Sims 3 and Bejewelled 2.
Galaxy S III Mini, the smaller and toned-down iteration of the current flagship smartphone, features the ‘pebble’ design language that the Galaxy S III and Note II have, but features a smaller 4-inch SuperAMOLED display. It is closer to the Galaxy S Advance than the Galaxy S III in terms of specifications.
Samsung Galaxy S III Mini runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with Nature UI and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM. The phone will be available in 8GB and 16GB variants, which will support microSD card up to 32GB. Rear camera in the S III Mini has been scaled down to 5MP, from the 8MP snapper that came with the S III.
The battery has also been reduced from 2,100mAh in Galaxy S III to 1,500mAh in Galaxy S III Mini. Connectivity options in the two devices remain the same, such as NFC, 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and S Beam. The S III Mini also comes with S Voice, the digital voice assistant that Samsung developed in order to rival with Apple’s Siri.
Though the S III Mini is being launched as an extension to the S III brand, its hardware is quite similar to that of the Galaxy S Advance. The only differences between the two devices are NFC, S Voice, S Beam, slight increment in RAM and Android 4.1 instead of Android 2.3 out-of-the-box; Samsung recently announced that Galaxy S Advance will soon get the Jelly Bean update as well, skipping Ice Cream Sandwich altogether.
There was no word on the pricing and availability of the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini globally as well as in India. However, considering that its competition falls in the price bracket of Rs 18,000-21,000, it can be expected that it will cost approximately the same.
Key specs:
Display: 4-inch SuperAMOLED touchscreen;
Operating system: Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean);
Processor: 1GHz dual-core;
RAM: 1GB;
Storage: 8, 16GB, with microSD card support up to 32GB;
Connectivity: 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, S Beam; and
Battery: 1,500mAh

THE JAMES BOND TRICK
If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing volume to "Mute". Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it. The phone receives the call without ringing and you can listen to what people are saying.

NETWORK MONITOR
There is a hidden menu inside your Nokia phone. If you want to activate it, you'll have to re-program some chips inside of your phone.
Check your software version. You can only continue if you have v4.33, v4.73 or v5.24.
Take apart the phone.
De-solder the EEPROM (ATMEL AT 24C64).
Read out the data with an EEPROM programmer and save it to a file (Backup).
If you have v.33 or v4.73, change the address "03B8" from "00" to "FF".
If you have v5.24 then change the address "0378" from "00" to "FF".
Write the new data to the EEPROM and solder it back to the phone,
Power on your phone and you should have "Netmonitor" enabled.
The Network Monitor gives you the following information.

Carrier number
MS RX Level in DBM
Received signal quality
MS TX power level
C1 (Path loss criterion, used for cell selection and reselection). The range is -99 to 99.
RTL (Radio link timeout).

Indication of the transmitter status
Information on the Network parameters.
TMSI (Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity).
Cell identification (Cell ID, Number of cells being used).
MCC (Mobile country code)
MCN (Mobile network code)
LAC (Location area code)
Ciphering (On/Off)
Hopping (On/Off)

CHECK SIM-LOCK
Note - If you bought your Nokia on UK Vodafone or UK Cellnet you do not need to check this because they both transmit on GSM900, and they don't lock the phones. However if you bought your phone on UK Orange or UK One2one your phone may be blocked. The reason is that they both transmitt on GSM1800. To make a call on GSM1800 you need what is known as a "Dual band" phone. A dual band phone is able to transmit on both GSM900 and GSM1800, so they lock the phones so you can't use it with any other network simcard. If you find that your phone is locked you can try different software to unlock it. (we havn't found one that works yet), or you can ask your service provider who will gladly exchange the 10 digit code for about £35.
This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Aslo don't try entering the wrong number, because after 3 times it will block the phone for good.

There are 4 different locks on your Nokia phone.
COUNTRY-LOCK
NETWORK-LOCK
PROVIDER-LOCK
SIMCARD-LOCK
The code to read out the sim-lock status of your phone is

#PW+(MASTERCODE)+(Y)#
# = DOUBLE-CROSS
W = PRESS "*" THREE TIMES
P = PRESS "*" FOUR TIMES
+ = PRESS "*" TWO TIMES
MASTERCODE = 1234567890
Y = NUMBER 1 TO 4
The master code is a secret code. The code has 10 digits, To read out the sim-lock status you can enter every combination you want!
"Y" Shows the status of the network-lock. Here you can enter a number from "1" to "4". The "4" is for the sim-card lock.

SIM-LOCK CHECKS
#PW+1234567890+1# = GIVES PROVIDER-LOCK STATUS
#PW+1234567890+2# = GIVES NETWORK-LOCK STATUS
#PW+1234567890+3# = GIVES COUNTRY-LOCK STATUS
#PW+1234567890+4# = GIVES SIM-CARD-LOCK STATUS

If you are using Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 operating system, use the following techniques.

Step 1- Copy the desired PC wallpaper image to desktop.

Step 3 – Reduce the white working space to smallest (5mmX5mm)

Step 4- In the paint go to Edit> Paste from, select the image.

Step 5- When image will come on “Paint” press “CTRL+W” or click Image>Stretch/Skew

Step 6- Reduce the size of Horizontal and Vertical by 65% both (or less if required).

Step 7- Save the image as JPG format.

So the output file is of reduced resolution (240X400 pixel, 240X320 pixel etc )which will be in most cases compatible for your mobile phone to see it or use it as Wall paper.

4G in INDIA

KOLKATA: Sixteen years after it ushered in the cellphone revolution in India, with chief ministerJyoti Basu making the first call to telecom minister Sukhram in August 1995, Kolkata once again made telecom history on Tuesday by becoming the first Indian city with a 4G link.

The service, an abbreviation for fourth generation wireless, was launched by Airtel, whose predecessor in the city, Modi Telstra mobile, had launched the cellphone service from the city with Basu’s historic call. It wasn’t just the emotional factor that made the city an automatic choice for the 4G launch. A senior Airtel official said the 4G infrastructure in the city had been put in place before others by ZTE Corporation, China’s largest listed telecom equipment company roped in to plan, design, deploy and supply the 4G network in Kolkata. And in remarks that would show Bengal and its capital in positive light to the industry,Bharti Airtel chairman and managing director Sunil Bharti Mittal, who unveiled the service along with telecom minister Kapil Sibal, thanked the state government for fast clearances.

So, Kolkatans can now access ultra-fast broadband service that, according to experts, is expected to be five times as fast as 3G. But a 4G connection will not offer voice or text services (in other words, you cannot use it to make calls or send SMSs). The service is being provided through dongles, which will allow you to link up with computers, laptops and some tablets. A 4G network makes internet browsing much faster and lets users download songs and stream movies much more quickly than with 3G or WiFi.

But as with the rest of the world, its success in India, too, will depend on affordability, a point Sibal emphasised at the launch, confessing that the 3G story in India hadn’t been a successful one.
